Dear Friends of Storytelling:
Sharing the Fire is just a month away. and we are pleased to share the progress made towards a successful Sharing the Fire Conference in March 2012! Sharing the Fire makes its New York debut in 74 days and we want you there! Albany beckons hosting the people and the things you have come to know and love, as well as, some new opportunities and hospitality.
Our Sharing the Fire Volunteer Committee has been working hard to assemble an inviting program filled with rich learning offerings (38 workshops), entertaining Storytelling concerts and time to relax and network. Highlights include:
- Four exciting preconference seminars with presenters: Diane Edgecomb, Doug Lipman, the New York Expressive Arts Collective and Carolyn Stearns.
- The Friday Night concert at Page Hall in nearby downtown Albany. ”Vagabond Shoes: Stories from Old New York” with eight of New York’s finest storytellers: Kent Busman, Jonathan Kruk, Regina Carpenter, Lorna Czarnota, Joy Kelly, Lee-Ellen Marvin, Regina Ress and Fran Yardley. - The Saturday keynote, demonstration and facilitated discussion by Dr. Kevin Cordi, Ph.D. – a nationally recognized educator and founder of YES (Youth, Education and Storytellers).

These diverse classes provide opportunities for both novices and seasoned tellers to hone their skills and find new ways to implement storytelling into their work environments and their personal lives.
- The Saturday Evening Featured Tellers – “Olio” performance at the Sovereign features five Regional Tellers selected by the LANES membership for this showcase event. Saturday Evening “Olio” performance at the Sovereign Hotel features five Regional Tellers selected from the LANES membership: Robin Bady, Geraldine Buckley, Joe Peck , Lani Peterson and Bill Ratner. - “LANES Regional Story Slam” following the Saturday Olio where regional tellers compete on the Theme of “Erie Nights” and joining us for this from Los Angeles is Bill Ratner, eight time winner of the Moth. (Slammers will have up to 4 minutes to tell their stories.)
- Sunday morning performance features youth storytellers from Children at the Well, an acclaimed interfaith group for peace and understanding based in the Capital District. – Keynoter Kevin Cordi began storytelling at age 17. Plan on meeting and listening to the next generation.
